Em sua obra &#8220;Other People&#8217;s Money: A Study in the Social Psychology of Embezzlement&#8221; (Dinheiro alheio: um estudo sobre a psicologia social do desfalque, sem vers\u00e3o em portugu\u00eas.). Cressey \u2014 que foi aluno de Edwin Sutherland, o famoso criador do termo &#8220;crime de colarinho branco&#8221; \u2014 investigou a fundo os fatores que levam pessoas a cometerem peculato e quebras de confian\u00e7a.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">O resultado dessa investiga\u00e7\u00e3o foi a formula\u00e7\u00e3o do Tri\u00e2ngulo da Fraude, uma teoria que descreve tr\u00eas elementos fundamentais que precisam coexistir para que crimes financeiros corporativos aconte\u00e7am. Para o profissional de contabilidade forense, dominar esses tr\u00eas pilares \u00e9 indispens\u00e1vel:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong> Press\u00e3o (ou Motiva\u00e7\u00e3o)<\/strong> Este \u00e9 o ponto de partida, caracterizado por um estresse insustent\u00e1vel ou uma necessidade que muitas vezes o indiv\u00edduo considera &#8220;n\u00e3o compartilh\u00e1vel&#8221;. Essa press\u00e3o pode ter origem em uma dificuldade financeira real ou ser apenas percebida pelo fraudador, como a necessidade de financiar um v\u00edcio. Al\u00e9m disso, necessidades n\u00e3o financeiras tamb\u00e9m servem como forte motiva\u00e7\u00e3o, a exemplo de altas exig\u00eancias de desempenho e metas profissionais rigorosas. \u00c9 essa press\u00e3o psicol\u00f3gica ou financeira que impulsiona o sujeito a agir.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Oportunidade<\/strong> O segundo pilar materializa-se quando o indiv\u00edduo percebe a exist\u00eancia de falhas nos controles internos e de seguran\u00e7a. Nas empresas, os funcion\u00e1rios inevitavelmente recebem acesso a ativos, pessoas, sistemas de computador e informa\u00e7\u00f5es sens\u00edveis para conseguirem desempenhar suas fun\u00e7\u00f5es. O grande risco reside na percep\u00e7\u00e3o de que existe uma brecha onde o ato il\u00edcito pode ser cometido sem detec\u00e7\u00e3o. Mais do que apenas a chance de realizar a fraude, a oportunidade abrange a capacidade de ocultar e encobrir as a\u00e7\u00f5es il\u00edcitas.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Racionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong> O pilar final \u00e9 essencialmente mental: trata-se das justificativas e desculpas internas que o fraudador cria para validar o comportamento desonesto perante sua pr\u00f3pria moralidade. Embora seja um processo mais dif\u00edcil para indiv\u00edduos com padr\u00f5es morais elevados, a racionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o permite que o infrator transforme uma atitude criminosa em algo aceit\u00e1vel em sua mente.
